Graham Clucas and Michael Calver are two painters who use abstract representation to reflect on lived experiences. They have both been practicing artists for over 50 years. Their work has reference to early modernism, which rejected realistic depictions of subjects, and the later minimalism, which aimed to represent qualities of order, simplicity and harmony.

Michael Calver sees urban landscape in its purest form as shapes, colour and scale. Colour becomes feeling and shapes create a spatial coherence that cannot fail to draw you in.

Graham Clucas uses silence as his overall inspiration from which time and being are meshed into a contemplative space on canvas.

It is an inspiration to see these two friends come together in this exhibition. Although their starting points differ, they also overlap and connect, especially through the use of colour.

Both artists have followed their intuition and continued to develop and exhibit work in the UK and abroad.
