Green Hill Arts is presenting an exhibition of work by Brendan Barry, photographer, educator and camera builder. He photographed wildflowers, collected on morning walks with his daughter during the first lockdown, and developed them using two distinct analogue processes - one a simple paper negative, the other a complex colour reversal process that he has developed over the last five years.

The work touches on themes of family, reconnecting with nature, exploration of personal space and appreciating one's immediate surroundings. His creative practice combines elements of construction, education, performance and participation.

Speaking today, Brendan said “Each image is unique, captured directly onto photographic paper. The process is long and laborious and the photographs hard to achieve, it can take up to 8 hours to create a successful exposure. As the ambient temperature in the room shifts, the colour balance fluctuates, and the chemical concentration changes so too does the resultant image meaning no two images will ever look the same.”

Brendan will be building a Camera Obscura in the gallery to reveal the process that captured Flowers with Bea and engaging the audience with some of photography’s transformative magic during a workshop. Places on this are available to book now.
