Green Hill Studios is hosted by Green Hill Arts for Devon Open Studios.

Painters Dan Shread and Janette Staton invite visitors to view their working studios upstairs at Green Hill Arts, alongside guest artist Cat Large. What links these artists is their exploratory approach to their practices, their focus on process rather than the finished image. This display will give visitors an opportunity to glimpse the works in progress and ideas in the making.

Dan works with abstracts and figuratively, investigating colour and composition. Recent works build layers of acrylic on large canvases, using still lifes and interiors as a starting point. Rich in texture, Dan’s paintings are multi-layered, exploratory and playful.

Janette’s practice is rooted in drawing, with her main interests being in portraiture and landscape. Although paintings are primarily in oil, she loves the spontaneity and malleability of charcoal. Her interest is in the therapeutic benefits of the creative process.

Cat’s work has also evolved from a background of her commitment to drawing. Recent years have seen an inquisitive investigation into the forms drawing can take and we are delighted that she will be joining Green Hill Studios to display some of her new delicate and mesmerising ink studies.
