Join us in Moretonhampstead Parish Hall on 27th June for a fundraising event in support of our gallery’s future programming. Doors open at 6:00pm, with the event running from 6:00pm – 10:00pm.

Art historian Sam Smiles presents an engaging talk on the late paintings of J. M. W. Turner. He is the author of five books on Turner and has worked on major Tate exhibitions including Late Turner: Painting Set Free (2014) and Turner’s Modern World (2022).

Turner’s late work divided opinion in his lifetime, admired by some and dismissed by others as chaotic and incomprehensible. Yet the very qualities once criticised are now seen as central to his importance in the history of modern art.

This is a combined talk and supper event, exploring how Turner’s reputation was made, lost, and remade, and asking whether he should be seen as a Victorian eccentric or a visionary far ahead of his time.

Guests will enjoy a three-course meal, with a vegetarian option available. Please specify dietary requirements at the time of booking by emailing billie@greenhillarts.co.uk. Last-minute changes will not be possible. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee gluten-free meals.
